How do electronic touchless faucets work
The way a touchless faucet works might seem complicated, but it’s based on one thing: the electronic valve. The valve controls water flow with the use of a rubber-like disc called “a membrane”.
In its usual state, the touchless faucet comes with a closed membrane and valve. In this condition, there’s no water flow.
Stern’s electronic touchless faucets are equipped with an IR (InfraRed) sensor, able to detect movement within a programmable range. This sensor notifies the valve of movement within its detectable range, causing the valve to open along with the membrane – allowing water to flow.
Are electronic touchless faucets for commercial bathrooms worth it?
Touchless faucets are the ideal choice when you need to control the water consumption in your commercial bathroom. Initially, that may seem counterintuitive: any movement within the sensor’s range would cause water to flow. However, the faucet is programmed to stop water flow within several seconds.
Comparably, touch faucets are commonly left running by careless or distracted bathroom users. Water can flow uninterrupted in these situations – sometimes for extended periods – causing significant water waste.
Thus, while the initial investment in touchless faucets is larger, long-term savings are a proven fact.
How much water you can save with an electronic faucet?
Touchless faucets have been a staple in public bathrooms for the past decade. they are more hygienic, more energy efficient, more convenient, and of course, more economical. Most bathroom suppliers and manufacturers report a water saving of up to 70% depending on specific faucet parts.
A touchless faucet can save thousands of gallons of water each year. The standard commercial bathroom contains a washing unit with 3-6 faucets on average. So the savings increase with every faucet installed in the washing unit.
